Re-inventing a Classic
| Posted on August 3, 2017 at 12:20 AM |
This past weekend we presented Carol and Raul's wedding cake at the Clinton Town Hall in Clinton, Massachusetts. Our lovely bride Carol is very traditional and wanted to have an old-school wedding cake with separate tiers, and fountains. Sometimes making classic cakes can feel a bit dated but I was up for the challenge. Carol is young and vibrant so I wanted to highlight her youth by adding a modern twist to her vision.
I decided to give it a fresh look by adding ruffles emulating the wedding dress, and gilded decorations. The touch of gold made the cake look regal and timeless. The bride also wanted to highlight her Caribbean roots by having bright flowers. I added white lilies and coral roses with touches of champagne spray roses. To add to the tropical theme, the bride and groom selected for cake flavors Passion Fruit, Morir Soñando (orange cream) and Pina Colada.
Now let's talk about the size of this cake. Holy macaroni! it's huge! Let's go over all it went in to create this cake:
For this 250 servings cake I used 156 eggs, 14 lbs of flour, 18 lbs of butter, 24 lbs of sugar, 15 lbs of fondant and about 10 grams of edible gold dust (believe me, that's a lot of gold). It took 45 hours to complete, 1.5 hours to deliver and 1.5 hours to set up at the venue.
After all was said and done, I think I accomplished what I set out to do, create a breathtaking, classic, and timeless centerpiece for a delightful couple who celebrated their love in from of all their family and friends, and I couldn't be more proud. Mission Accomplished! ![]()

"There are a number of young men, most of them girls, who have not yet grown up."
The police believe more than 2,000 girls are now sexually assaulted by members of the online chat groups.
There are also rumours that there may be up to 1000 boys in the group and there are some girls who have joined the group because they were interested in meeting younger men online.
The Independent has contacted Facebook for comment.

Arrests will stem drug crimes police have long viewed as being perpetrated by organized crime and organized groups.
Police have arrested 11 alleged members of the FARC since 2009, according to figures released last month by Colombian authorities, and two others were arrested last month. Since the beginning of 2009, Colombian authorities have arrested more than 200 alleged members of a group called "C³mo al Guarico," or the Guerilla Front.
While cocaine traffickers rarely participate in drug deals, authorities have increasingly seized the lucrative cocaine market in Colombia in recent years. Many cocaine traffickers are linked to organized crime, and many are arrested for drug-related crimes, including murder, rape, extortion, money laundering and money laundering, according to US officials.
A recent review of Colombia's drug laws by the US State Department's International Narcotics Control Board, a joint U.S. agency of the departments of State and Justice, highlighted how Colombia has become a major transit nation for cocaine-bound drug ships to and from the United States, according to an excerpt from the report.
"In October 2001, there were more than 7.6 million illegal cigarettes on Colombian ships, valued at $1.5 billion in 2013, equivalent to 6 percent of all international exports," according to the State Department.
While Colombian authorities believe they have taken significant strides in combating cocaine trafficking, they have also recently seized another "kingpin" in the drug trade -- a drug trafficker named Julio Cesar Gonzalez.
The DEA's drug division is calling him the head of a Colombian cartel.
According to a press release, Gonzalez, a 56-year-old "pimienta" and former "siglo de fiesta," was a member of the "Pagul", a drug-trafficking syndicate that used the alias of "Guatemalan."
The press release says he was arrested July 15 on charges of murder, trafficking in arms, trafficking in narcotics, and other federal and state-level offenses.
According to a press release, authorities say "Sieg, alias Iglesia 'Espect' y Guadalupe," or "El Pimienta y El Guadalupe" (the three stars and an E), allegedly had the leadership positions in the Colombian drug operation. "This leader has been a longtime supplier of illegal firearms," it said.
Cesar Gonzalez was indicted on February 24 by a court in Bogot¡ on two counts of murder, trafficking in arms and conspiracy to export narcotics.
The news of this alleged Colombian leader's arrest comes a few months after an arrest in Colombia of a Colombian army colonel who the state claimed was involved in a plot to kidnap, rob and murder high-ranking officials. On June 24, stat

Ohio seeks to block transgender student rights: At a meeting of Gov. John Kasich's legislative task force on Thursday, the Ohio Senate blocked a bill that would have given transgender students the ability to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. The measure's sponsor, Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said in a statement the state "believes in protecting our children."
Kansas to begin use of statewide mandatory education day after Thanksgiving: Last month, Republicans in the Kansas House began a bill that would have prohibited "anti-American" activities on a school-based basis. The bill would also have required public schools to teach science to seventh- and eighth-grade students on the assumption they were aware of the dangers of climate change.
U.S. Senate Republicans to consider House bill to prohibit Obama's executive amnesty: The American Petroleum Institute announced Thursday it would lobby U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, to support Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in supporting a measure being proposed by U.S. Reps. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., and David Schweikert, R-Ariz. The group, which is expected to be among the most powerful in Congress, would introduce the bill as an amendment to the Senate's sweeping comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Mr Turner says there has been a flurry of activity for gay dating services in the past few weeks.
He adds: "It's always difficult for some people to accept that their sexual orientation can change. But now it is time for them to accept they can change, as the majority can change, but not everyone is gay.
"This is about having the right to change to who you want to be and where you want to go.
"What a very personal decision, and a very significant one for me."
A spokeswoman for the National Lottery said a spokesman said: "This was not just a question of playing cards with us, but also for every man, every woman, every gay person to choose their own identity.
"Our prizes are based on our criteria, and we offer the widest range of prizes to reflect the needs of any category.
"We want to respect all sides of society."

Crispin critical of govt in farwell speech ââ?¬â?? and then the government went quiet."
The Labour councillor said he had been informed that Mr Duncan would not be going to the debate.
Mr Tipton told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "It's very much a matter for him. The Labour party does have a message for the Government, it's an important one."
Mr Tipton said Labour wanted a free vote and he would "certainly get in and vote" for the Government if it was prepared to listen to his party and respect the will of the people.
Analysis The Government does not want to deal with another "no go" vote and as a result a vote of no confidence has been declared by Labour. This would be the fourth time such a vote has been declared by the party leader in the last 14 years. But there may be a difference of opinion over how it would deal with the govt. On the political scale the vote by MPs to no confidence has to be considered as low as a mere three points. The Lib Dems are confident that their vote will go as expected. But Labour is not a party that wants to use a vote of no confidence as a bargaining chip. The result will be decided by party conference. And that should tell you something about how Labour feels about the Government - if their internal divisions mean they go further back than expected to make their case.
Asked if it was clear that Mr Duncan would go, Mr Tipton said: "Well obviously he wants to go but he will need to respect the will of the people to do so in the very last moment and make sure he has a very free and frank vote.
"I think we've got to look at it the way the media and people know it will happen because he has been in parliament for 14 years and is very well known around London."
But he later added: "There are two sides to every story and there are a lot of things to come for the people of Farwell who want to hear it, and to see how the Government looks on this issue from both perspectives.
"I think we will be having a debate on the floor of the house of commons tomorrow morning and I will certainly be voting for the Government and also looking at all the views from MPs and others in both parties that will take place in those debates."
He told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show that the Government had no intention of dealing with a vote of no confidence by MPs.
He said that in the absence of a parliamentary vote the Government would be relying upon an "enthusiastic" vote at the conference and Mr Duncan would have to decide by December 26 or on December 27 whether he would hold a vote, at that stage, to continu
